We will present a Photo Chats with Steve Gosling on March 27th, 2024, at 2 PM (EST). Many of you may know Steve as he has been a frequent contributor of some fine articles to photoPXL. Steve is an award-winning photographer from the UK. I have done numerous workshops with Steve around the world. He has an exceptional eye and ability to see excellent compositions and capture images many of us wouldn’t have seen.

During his presentation, Steve will show a number of his images to outline the fundamental principles that underpin his unique approach to photography. These are some of those principles . . .
1 Basing images on a thought, idea, concept, or emotion.
2 Photographing what I feel as much as what I see.
3 Technical perfection is a secondary consideration.
4 I take a reductionist approach to composition.
5 I take photographs for myself, first and foremost.
Steve has an amazing sense of humor and another side that is very serious about his art. You will enjoy this Photo Chat as I am sure Steve will mix both humor and his approach to taking moving and touching photos.
Steve’s images have been published internationally as posters & greetings cards and have appeared in advertisements, books, magazines, newspapers & calendars across the world. Prints of his work have been exhibited in venues throughout the UK and have appeared on sets for both theatre and film productions. His work has also won awards in both national and international competitions.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I believe that a passion for the subject is an essential prerequisite for a successful photograph. If the photographer feels ambivalent about whatever is seen through the viewfinder how can they hope to have any impact on those who see the final photograph? Communicating mood & emotion are my most important motivators for making images. I’ve never been overly concerned with technical perfection or producing an accurate pictorial record of a subject or a location. For me, the heart of photography is to capture and communicate what I’m feeling, as much (if not more) than what I see at the time of releasing the shutter. If my photographs speak to the viewer on an emotional level, then I have succeeded in my work.
